Evening all :)
I'm fairly broke at the moment (mainly due to my addictive craft shopping habit :-/) and it was my friend Saoirse's birthday this week, so I decided to make her a gift instead. I really like how it turned out, and it's suitable for both genders too - I may be making more of these as presents for other friends who would appreciate this :)
We're both Harry Potter nuts, completely obsessed, so with the help of the adorably cute
Bugaboo's Har Repotter image range and a couple of extras, I decided to make her a Harry Potter wall hanging with quotes from the books. She cried when I gave it to her, so I think she liked it :) The books are really special to both of us, so it was fun but very, very emotional making this. My best friend since birth, Tara, was killed in a terrorist attack the day the sixth book in the series - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - was released, and I can honestly say if it wasn't for these books, I wouldn't have survived the heartbreak. I was so engrossed in reading the book that day, that I didn't hear the entire room I was in talking about the tragedy, so thanks again to Harry Potter, my parents were able to get me home, sit me down and tell me themselves... So for so many reasons, I'm thankful to Harry Potter and the magic that got me through the darkest days of my life. I can't believe it's been over seven years since that day, it still seems like yesterday... So here it is, I hope you like it. Picture-heavy post, sorry if it's too long for you guys - and Harry Potter mad!
So here's the hanging as it looks in its entirety, it's over a metre long. I got a length of 1" black ribbon, cut out 9 scalloped circles, and got to work. It took soooo long to make this!!! All the quotes I typed out and printed off in as magical a font I could find haha :) I tried to put the quotes with characters that either said them, or that they applied to or suited. As I said above, most of the images are from
Bugaboo and I coloured them with Promarkers and added copious amounts of Stickles and Glossy Accents.
For the top, I looped some ribbon over and glued it at the back so it'll hang up. I put another circle over the ribbon on the back of each segment to reinforce it. I put the bow on so it'll look pretty! The crest I printed off the internet, the swirl is Marianne Designs and the pearls are from
Ribbon Girl.
This is my ultimate favourite quote from the books...pretty much should just be quoted ad nauseum to anyone who carries stigma against anyone with mental health issues until they realise that they exist and even though may have no obvious phsyical symptoms, are still real. Red and gold for Gryffindor - my house on Pottermore :) the gems are from
Wild Orchid Crafts, the stars from my stash.
The paper is from Papermania capsule collection.
The jute is from Ribbon Girl, the papers are from a Papermania pack.
I got the sparkly paper in a local craft shop and embossed it with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.
I got the wooden stars in my local bookshop. The black jute is from Ribbon Girl.
The buttons and string are from Ribbon Girl. The flowery paper I debossed using an Impressability sheet and inked over then with brown ink.
I punched the butterflies with a MS punch. The silver paper is from stash, the green from a Papermania capsule pack. Gems from Wild Orchid Crafts.
I printed everything off the computer on this one, and the gems are Wild Orchid Crafts.
And the whole way through making this post, Scraps the cat has been lying on the laptop, gnawing on, treading her claws in and licking my arm for attention. Awwwww.
I'd like to enter this into the following challenges:
Thanks for looking :)
